What to do if…
My toilet is clogged?
The only thing that should ever be flushed down a toilet is toilet paper. With a few exceptions, anything else runs the risk of clogging the toilet. If you know that your roommate or guest has dropped something in the toilet (i.e. cell phone, tooth brush, keys, applicator etc.) DO NOT FLUSH. Put an “out of order” sign on the seat, and then contact the office so that maintenance can attempt to remove the item. If the toilet is otherwise not flushing, i.e. the water rises in the basin but does not drain, first try using a plunger to clear the blockage. If that does not work, call the office or visit our website to request a maintenance visit.
My sink and shower is draining slowly?
Check the strainer and clean out any hair that might be caught. Use a plunger to clear any blockage. If unsuccessful, call the office or visit our website to request a maintenance visit.
I have a water leak?
If it’s a small drip, place a container under the leak to catch the water and request a maintenance visit. For any other kind of leak, call the office during business hours or the emergency number after hours for a maintenance visit.
The electricity is not working?
If this is a new condition, check the electrical box and make sure all of the breakers on in the ON position. If there is no electricity in the bath room or kitchen, hit the test and reset button on the GFI receptacle on the electrical outlet. If there is still no electricity, call/email for a maintenance visit.

My heat or air conditioning does not work?

The smoke detector keeps beeping?
Smoke detectors are for your safety and protection so please do not tamper with them. If the smoke alarm goes off in your apartment or townhouse because of excessive smoke due to burnt food, try fanning the smoke away from the detector.
If there is an actual fire please exit the building and wait for the fire department. Because the entire system is hard-wired, if you take the detector off or destroy the cover, it will be very expensive to replace. Hot Point and Stone Ridge Commons have sprinkler systems. Do not hang anything from the sprinkler heads. If you break the red crystal in the sprinkler head, the sprinkler system will immediately engage in the entire unit pumping water throughout and causing extensive damage to the unit and its contents.
There is a hole in the wall?

I have a broken window?

How can I conserve energy and save money?
- Always try to conserve energy by turning off all lights, the TV, music, and your computer when you go out and when you sleep.
- This also applies to fans and air conditioners in the summer and heating units in the winter. In the summer use a fan instead of an air conditioner whenever possible, especially at night when you can open the window. In the winter, turn down the heat while you sleep.
- Make sure the dishwasher is full before you run it and let the dishes air dry by turning off the drying cycle.
- Always keep the fridge clean; throw out old food and never pack the freezer section.
If this is an EMERGENCY such as a water leak, lockout, sewer backup or broken glass please call (717) 532-3782.
Do not use email to report your emergency.
